Why write this blog? Long answer - I’m curious. I’ve got to understand how stuff works, how things fit together and why they are what they are. My heroes are folks like the Lunar Society, Robert Hooke and James Cook. Thinkers who ranged far and wide during the formative years of science, commerce and industry, and helped shape the world we know today. I’m always on the lookout for the Hookes, Darwins, Bolton’s and Franklins of the 21st century.
While I don’t have the hubris to put myself in the same class as these titans, I do find my life shaped by some of the same drives. I was the kind of kid that would read the encyclopedia for fun. I’m fascinated by the intersection of society, technology and information that is blooming at the moment. I’m also intrigued by the natural sciences, geology, geomorphology, biology, travel, history, cooking and brewing, metal work and ….. You get the idea. Fortunately my wife is the kind of woman who thinks scrounging around tide pools, wandering the back roads of Sian Ka’an looking for obscure Mayan ruins, or converting the spare bathroom into a combination cidery and cheese cave are perfectly entertaining pass times.
